BUSINESS: Am I required to have an Independent Contractor Exemption?
To be an Independent Contractor in Montana, a worker must be:
• Free from control or direction;
• Engaged in their own independently established business, occupation, trade or profession; and
• Hold an Independent Contractor Exemption Certificate.

PAYROLL: How much should I withhold out of my check?
If you are an employee, the IRS withholding calculator can help you determine whether you need to give your employer a new  Form W-4, Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate to avoid having too much or too little Federal income tax withheld from your pay. RECORD RETENTION: How long should I keep my business & personal documents?
Federal Law requires you to maintain copies of your tax returns and supporting documents for three years. However, if the IRS believes you have under-reported your income or any indication of fraud, they can go back six years in an audit.
